Just wanted to throw a quick post up to introduce the second major revamp here at A Game of Inges!  With a new season we’re bringing a fresh new look and features so we’d love you to spread the word!

Special thanks to the site’s creator, Anthony Sandoval:

Without your help sir, we would never have been able to have such a badass looking site!

Impressive

“I would eat my hat if it wasn’t $34.95 from the hat store.”

Would anyone disagree with me right now if I said that Ryan Raburn is proving himself to be an everyday player?  Would anyone be shocked the previous sentence came from my fingers?  Yup.  Me too.

Ryan F-in Raburn is batting .286 with a .333 OBP with a .515 slugging percentage.  I’d let him bat in the 2 spot.  Shit, I’d let him bat in the 3 or 4 spot with how he’s been batting away.  Apparently Jimmy agrees.  Raburn hit in the 3 spot, which leaves opposing pitchers in quite the pickle.  You have a guy who you don’t know THAT much about because he’s never been quite as impressive as the last season and a half.  If Austin Jackson gets on base, and you happen to get Will Rhymes or Casper Wells out…suddenly you’re faced with three hitters than can make you pay. (I’m bittersweet and thrillingly happy that I’m saying this about RR)

Raburn, Cabrera, and Martinez make up a monster early-middle of the line up.

The Tigers own a 3 game winning streak, and the bottom of the order is starting to help produce runs.  We have utility players producing.  Players aren’t being selfish.  Defense looks better the last 12 innings or so.  It’s starting to look more like the Tigers that Dave D and Mikey I promised.

I am happy as a lark.  Hmm….any other mentionables from last night’s win?

OH YEA.

Phil Coke went 7 strong innings giving up only three hits and 0 earned runs.  Only two K’s, but only two BB’s as well.

A southpaw….dominating…..with run support…..I think I may actually cry.

The Final Out: The weather is getting better….so is Detroit’s baseball club.

Important: Bi-Winning

“Thanks, Charlie Sheen.  I’d love for this Tiger Blood to be Bi-Winning.”

It would be glorious for a bi-winning Tuesday/Wednesday!

There needs to be just a little extra on that baseball this afternoon.

Scherzer has been pretty good in his first couple of starts.  Texas proves to be as much of a challenge as the Yankee’s lineup this afternoon.  With a 5.73 ERA, if Max can hold the hot hitting Rangers to under 3 runs and keep the walks down, it’s more than just a textbook quality start for the Tigers.  We are in desperate need consecutive quality starts from our staff.

Yup.  That’s supposed to be Max throwing a piece of gold.  Because: that’s what we need.  We need you to be hurling nothing but solid gold down the pipe today Maxy.

David Bush (RHP) takes the ball for Texas.  He’s the sixth starter they’ll go to so far in the young season.  I don’t know much about him, so if I’m Jimmy, I’m happy if all my leftys go at LEAST 1 for 4 on the day.  If Boesch, Santiago, Rhymes, Avila and Martinez all play (lineups haven’t been posted on MLB.com yet).  That’s 5 hits right there.  Knock at least two in let Cabrera rip for the fences.

That would make me happy.  Way happier than Charlie Sheen on a bender.

Jimmy Bites Back

Mid-game adjustments help Jimmy turn it around after Washington out coaches first half of game.

Well it was a game that looked like it would being as ugly as others this short 2011 season so far.  The first few innings, it looked like the Detroit Tigers team that earned runs just to give up runs.  The first few innings made fans question all the elements of winning baseball again.  Starting pitching, relievers, and late game runs.

No Longer Wanted: Old National League Pitchers

Posted by: Mike Sandoval

The title says it all.

As if we didn’t learn our lesson before.  Has anyone ever heard of Mike Anton?  No?  Well, I’d rather have him hurl a baseball than any of the following:

  • Dontrelle Willis
  • Wil Ledezma
  • Nate Robertson
  • Kyle Farnsworth
  • Brad Penny

I don’t know about other fans of the club out there….but I really am not liking the chances we’ve taken on old should-could-be’s from the National League.  I tried to be positive about the acquisition of Penny in the off season, but I no longer am.  Two starts is all I need to see.

If our bullpen is complete shit, let’s at least have our starters try and save the day.  No risks left in a team that now has a 2 year window to do some damage in the AL.

I’m losing confidence in our ability to successfully hand the ball over to Benoit and Papa Grande.

The Final Out: Sorry….I’m really not THAT bad of a sports pessimist.
